A meeting of the Parish Council was held on Wednesday 9th September  2009 at 7.30pm in the Cator Hall

Present

Mrs M Curry, Mr R Howes, Mr D Brozyna, Mr L Haslam, Mr R Brown, Mrs S Wilson, Cllr A Stewart and Cllr B Laughton.

Apologies: Mr R Neale

Minutes

The minutes of the meeting held on 10th June were read.  It was proposed by Mr R Howes, seconded by Mr D Brozyna, and agreed unanimously that these be signed as a true record.

Matters Arising

  1. Street signs – a) the signs either side of the fingerpost at the Wellow Road junction have now been reset equidistant from the post; b) old street name plates are in safe keeping.  It was proposed to review if the old supports are worthy of refurbishment or require replacement.
  2. Telephone Box – action on refurbishment is pending.
  3. Speed signs – a) requests for a temporary interactive speed sign have been made both via the Safer Neighbourhood Group and via Inspector Gann at Southwell Police Station.  PC are allowed to purchase their own but must meet certain criteria before they are allowed to be erected; b) a letter received from NCC explained that small (30) signs cannot be put up in 30mph zones.
  4. NCC Landscape Services supplied an invoice for lost years of mowing of the recreation ground at the end of July.  Confirmation of the 2009 contract price has still not been received.  Cllr Stewart offered to follow these matters up.
  5. HGV passing through the village are still causing problems.  Cllr Laughton explained that NCC would be considering a long term strategy for moving vehicles with the possibility of Lorry Exclusion Zones and a grid system in certain areas.

County/District Councillors

  1. Cllr Laughton was told of the public meeting at Bilsthorpe in July about road safety on the A614 and received a copy of proposals for road improvements drawn up by the Chairmen of Bilsthorpe, Eakring, Edwinstowe and Rufford PCs which is to be sent to NCC.  He explained that as there was a backlog of routine maintenance work on highways he understood that over the next 2-3 years a lot of money would be prioritised in that area.
  2. Mr Haslam asked when NCC introduced the new policy of sending visitors from Rufford Abbey via Wellow and Eakring thus increasing traffic flow through the village.  He produced a map given out to visitors to a ceramics exhibition at Rufford Mill.  Cllr Laughton promised to investigate.
  3. Cllr Stewart said that he hoped there would be progress on replacing the bus shelter when more money became available, hopefully through BBC.

Cator Hall

Mr Brown reported that at the Annual Meeting all committee members were re-elected.  The work on the toilets has now been completed and the floor is receiving treatment at the present time.

Recreation Ground

The Playing Field Equipment Committee held a table top sale in the Cator Hall to raise funds.  It was proposed by Mr L Haslam, seconded by Mr R Brown, that the PC should make a donation of the cost of the rent of the Cator Hall for this event.

Accounts

Recreation Ground Mowing 2008 £420.00

Cator Hall Insurance £979.68

It was proposed by Mr D Brozyna, seconded by Mrs S Wilson with all in agreement that these accounts be paid.

Any Other Business

  1. Positioning of Planter – after discussion it was proposed by Mr R Brown, seconded by Mrs S Wilson, with all in agreement that the best place to site the planter was the Remembrance Garden.  Mr Brozyna suggested that to help preserve it a plastic liner should be used before it is filled.
  2. Resilience Store – Mr Brown believed that the PC should contact those householders in the village whose properties were in danger of flooding in the event of storms.  (A note would be put in the Eakring Echo).  Their potential needs could then be assessed.
  3. Mrs Curry reported on an NSDC Housing Market Assessment Seminar she had attended on 2nd Sept.
  4. Concern was expressed about overhanging branches and foliage alongside footpaths and pavements.  It was decided as a first step to put a strongly worded reminder in the Eakring Echo.

There being no further business, the meeting closed at 9.15pm.

Next meeting scheduled for 14th October 2009.

Signed:  MJ Curry 14.10.09
