A meeting of the Parish Council was held on Wednesday 10th June 2009 at 7.30pm in the Cator Hall

Mrs M Curry, Mr D Brozyna, Mr R Howes, Mr L Haslam, Mr R Brown, Cllr A Stewart and 1 parishioner.

Apologies: Mr R Neale, Mrs S Wilson

The minutes of the meeting held on 13th May were read. It was proposed by Mr D Brozyna, seconded by Mr L Haslam and agreed unanimously that these be signed as a true record.

Matters Arising

  1. Street name plates: The Bilsthorpe Road/Main Street signs wrongly placed near the telephone box have been correctly relocated near the Wellow Road junction. Unfortunately the PC feel they lack visual appeal because a) they have not been placed equidistance from the fingerpost, b) the Main St sign is an old sign reused and the Bilsthorpe Rd sign is a new sign. The Clerk of Works Dept has been informed and corrective work has been promised.
  2. Green Lane: A letter has been received from NCC. They will not remove the road surface but will visit and assess the soil at the side of the lane to see if it constitutes a hazard.
  3. Grass Cutting: NCC confirm that the village should receive 6 cuts of the verge and 2 strims around obstacles. 1st cut took place 27th and 29th May.
  4. Telephone Box: Refurbishment has not yet begun.
  5. Speed Signs: It was decided both to ask for signs for the village at the next Safer Neighbourhood Group Meeting in July and to write direct to Inspector Gann at Southwell Police Station.

County/District Councillors

  1. The road between Eakring/Kneesall is to be closed for 4 weeks for essential maintenance. Councillor Stewart said that after representations from parents with children at Kneesall School he had held talks with NCC Highways and the road closure time had been reduced from 6 weeks to 4 weeks.
  2. Cllr Stewart wondered if the PC had considered applying to replace the bus shelter with a new one (an example of those available could be seen in Oxton).
  3. The PC expressed concerns about the number of HGVs passing through the village both on Newark Rd and Kirklington Rd. Cllr Stewart agreed to see if there was anything that could be done.

  1. NSDC Register of Members Interests. Individual copies of Register of Members interests were distributed. Parish councillors were asked to check their own declaration and reminded that they must notify the Monitoring Officer of any changes of their interest with 28 days of becoming aware of them.

Any Other Business

  1. The PC have received a letter from Rufford PC about Road Safety on the A614. It invited the Chairman to a meeting of local Parish Council Chairmen on 15.6.09. Discussions took place on measures to improve safety on the A614. Suggestions include traffic lights, islands, a 50mph limit, cameras. The value of 3 lanes was debated.
  2. It was noted that the rubbish bin on Back Lane did not appear to be being emptied. Clerk to contact relevant Dept.
  3. The recycling bins on Main Street were thought to be unnecessary as there are fortnightly house to house collections for tins and newspapers.
  4. Whilst the new 30mph signs are slowing traffic entering the village it was suggested a small 30 sign be placed on lampposts further into the village, particularly on the Newark Road and Kirklington Road, would help reinforce the speed limit.
  5. St. Andrews have agreed to the placing of the planter. Mr Brown suggested a position under the window.
